In her speech, Tsai Ing-wen said that she is very happy to witness with everyone today the opening of Google’s hardware R&D center in Taiwan and its new office building. She still remembers the enthusiasm and vitality she felt when she visited Google’s Taiwan office in 2019. At that time, Google also expressed that it would continue to invest in Taiwan and build a trillion-dollar cloud industry.

In the past two years, in addition to setting up an office park in Banqiao, Google has completed its hardware R&D center today, making Taiwan the largest hardware R&D base after its headquarters in the United States. Google’s investment and construction in Taiwan also shows the government’s efforts to improve Taiwan’s competitiveness. It has made Taiwan visible to the world and continues to be optimistic about Taiwan.

Tsai Ing-wen said that in the past eight years, the government has promoted the “5+2 Industrial Innovation Plan”, “Six Core Strategic Industries”, and various infrastructure construction to promote Taiwan’s progress and development. Now Taiwan’s industrial clusters are more complete and the supply chain is also improving. It has shown resilience during the epidemic, and various high-quality investment conditions have attracted great attention from foreign investors.

Tsai Ing-wen further pointed out that from 2016 to last year, the average annual foreign investment in Taiwan was approximately US$10.3 billion, much higher than the US$5.36 billion from 2008 to 2015. Last year, the amount of foreign investment in Taiwan also exceeded US$11.25 billion. As more and more foreign businessmen choose to invest in Taiwan, Taiwan will continue to occupy a key position in the global supply chain; Taiwan’s international visibility will continue to increase.

Tsai Ing-wen thanked Google for promoting the “Smart Taiwan Project” in 2018 to help upgrade Taiwan’s information industry, promote smart industrial applications, and expand the scale of Taiwan’s digital economy. In addition, Google also implements social care and cooperates with NGOs to help primary and secondary school students obtain More learning resources will shorten the education gap between urban and rural areas.
