Both the Chinese guzheng and the Western harp are plucked instruments. They may seem to have similarities but are different. Composer Guo Jingmu was commissioned by the Taiwan Chinese Orchestra to compose a song with these two Chinese and Western instruments as solo protagonists, paired with the Chinese orchestra. The refreshing piece “2;2;2” will have its world premiere on April 27 at the Grand Performance Hall of the Taiwan Opera Center.

The Taiwanese Chinese Orchestra held a unique concert on the 27th, called “Love Without Boundaries”. The repertoire was very special. The first half of the concert opened with a world premiere performed by Jiang Jingbo, the music director of the Taiwanese Chinese Orchestra, who adapted Ravel’s famous piece “Pollyro”. Music version. Jiang Jingbo said that this is the result of his exploration and study in the field of Chinese music in the past few years. Music fans can hear familiar rhythms in it, but also hear the addition of plucked instruments and the confluence of Chinese and Western instruments.

Next is another world premiere piece, featuring two Chinese and Western musical instruments, the guzheng and the harp. Competition is a major feature. Huang Weijie, who has won two guzheng championships in the Taiwan Chinese Orchestra Instrumental Music Competition, is invited to perform together with NSO harp chief Xie Xuan. Amazing people.

Xie Xuan said that the piece composed by Guo Jingmu was technically difficult and fast, and the harp almost never stopped from beginning to end. Huang Weijie also believes that the challenge is very high, but he also feels that the meaning of the song is very meaningful and blends well with the image. Huang Weijie: “(Original sound) I think this is a very special but also very challenging piece of music. You can feel as if you are appreciating a richly colored Chinese landscape painting and a colorful and gorgeous Western ink painting. The combination of paintings echoes each other’s musical instruments, but in the process of competition, they can also show their own musical styles and colors. 』

The highlight of the second half is Chinese composer Zhao Jiping’s large-scale national orchestral music “Symphony of Fengya Ode”. The piece is based on the “Book of Songs” and “Orchid Cao” and is divided into five movements. It is the first performance in Taiwan and is performed by the Chinese orchestra. Join a large choir, tenor Wang Dian, and soprano Jiang Qizhen to create a magnificent stage performance for 100 people. Jiang Qizhen: “(Original sound) I think the sound of Chinese music, compared with Western music, is closer to the background of Eastern culture, the entire character, and attitude, so when we collaborate, I think it will be particularly resonant. 』

The “Love Without Boundaries” concert is one of the series of programs celebrating the 40th anniversary of the Taiwan Chinese Orchestra, conveying the boundlessness of music and love. In addition, the Taiwanese Chinese Orchestra also plans to go to Hualien Fushi Elementary School on May 7. Through the performance of the Chinese orchestra musicians, it will bring warmth to the teachers and students of Xibao Elementary School and Fushi Elementary School who were recently affected by the earthquake. At the same time, we pay tribute to the hard-working police, firefighters and medical staff in the Hualien disaster relief operation, and use music to convey the most sincere love and care.
