Recently, a Chinese Youtuber with 600,000 fans uploaded a 13-second short video, which was filmed at Hsinchu Railway Station. The content disparaged Taiwan. There was also a row of large characters on it that read, “Hsinchu Railway Station, Taiwan Province, we need to “To see the old China, you must go to Taiwan.” It was an understatement that Hsinchu Railway Station was backward. The comment area below also attracted a vote of Chinese netizens to agree, causing a fierce debate among netizens on both sides of the Taiwan Strait. This netizen was also found to have filmed multiple short videos attacking Taiwan, suspected of using Conduct cognitive operations in a consistent manner.

A Chinese netizen uploaded a 13-second short video, in which many tourists can be seen on the platform of Hsinchu Railway Station preparing to catch a ride. It looks like a video recording the scenery of Taiwan, but a row of simplified Chinese characters appears on it, “Hsinchu Railway Station, Taiwan Province, If you want to see old China, you must go to Taiwan.” The annotation below the video even reads, “This is Taiwan, China, Hsinchu Railway Station, This is Taiwan, China.” It is full of provocation.

After the video was exposed, more than 26,000 people watched it in just 2 days, and many Chinese netizens flooded the comment area to complain, “Any one of the tens of thousands of train stations in China is better than this one” and “Taiwan can be preserved for 30 years.” “The current state is really rare”, “The scene in mainland China decades ago”, “Indians and Africans coming to Taiwan feel like they are back home”.

In this regard, Taiwanese netizens are not to be outdone, believing that this is a century-old building from the Japanese occupation era, and the preservation of cultural assets is more important. Hsinchu City Councilor Liu Chongxian also countered that China has experienced the Cultural Revolution, resulting in the destruction of cultural materials such as history, architecture, and religious beliefs. The damage was so serious that the Chinese people today are unable to realize the importance of preserving historical buildings like Hsinchu Railway Station.

In fact, Hsinchu Railway Station was completed in 1913, the second year of Taisho. It was designed by Matsuzaki Mancho, a well-known Japanese architect at the time. The appearance of the building combines German Gothic and Baroque styles, with thick red brick walls and It has a steeply sloping Massa-style roof and has a history of more than 100 years. It is the oldest, well-preserved and still-service station in Taiwan. It was also listed as a national monument in 1998.

Clicking on this Chinese netizen’s Douyin account, he introduced himself as “Daily life in China, hot topics in China! The real China!” Many of the videos ridiculed and attacked Taiwan’s backwardness, criticizing Sun Moon Lake Ita Shao Old Street. Garbage, Taipei is full of tin houses, etc. The usual method is to use 15-second short videos to promote Taiwan’s negative image. The cognitive operation has also set off fierce debates among netizens on both sides of the Taiwan Strait.
