[The Epoch Times, April 23, 2024](Epoch Times reporter Tong Yijia reported) Singaporean female singer Xu Meijing, known as “Little Faye Wong”, has sung popular songs such as “Moonlight in the City”. After being out of the music scene for more than 20 years, she recently held a comeback concert in Nanjing, China. Because she only sang for 30 minutes, the band was accused of singing the rest, causing fans at the scene to shout for refunds, and the topic became a hot topic.

According to local media reports, Xu Meijing held the “‘Dream’ Xu Meijing Meet and Greet Concert” in Nanjing on April 20. The audience was dissatisfied and even called for refunds because she “sung too little”. According to reports, the audience who watched the performance mainly raised three points of dissatisfaction: first, Xu Meijing interacted with fans for more than an hour during the 100-minute performance, and the singing time was only about 30 minutes; second, Xu Meijing only sang 5 songs. Unpopular songs such as “Moonlight in the City” and “Regret” and other classic songs were only sung for a few lines before being given to the band to sing or sing in the audience. Thirdly, the fans who were selected to read the script on their mobile phones suspected that it was pre-arranged.

What attracted people’s attention was that when the fans at the scene shouted for a refund, Xu Meijing’s manager said she was “dreaming”. Some fans posted the video online, causing “Xu Meijing’s concert to be in trouble” and “Xu Meijing’s concert to be refunded” instantly became hot searches on Weibo.

However, some fans said that Xu Meijing held a meet-and-greet concert, not a concert, saying that the atmosphere was very warm.

In response to the negative reviews, Xu Meijing’s management team responded to Singapore’s Lianhe Zaobao on the 22nd and stated that the arrangement of guests was to allow the singers time to change clothes and take a break. They admitted that they had underestimated the audience’s expectations to hear the original singers perform classics. As for Xu Meijing being questioned about her “status drift”, the team said: “The keys to those songs were originally set for the guests, not Xu Meijing’s keys.” They also emphasized that “the random selection of fans is also real, and the interactive exchanges are also true. There was no prearrangement, rehearsal, or fraud.”

The management team also admitted, “We discovered the shortcomings of the concert at the moment, but the subsequent online rants and false accusations still caught us by surprise.”

Xu Meijing, 49 years old this year, became popular in the Chinese circle in 1995 with songs such as “Moonlight in the City”. Later, she faded out of the entertainment industry due to mental illness and only performed occasionally. In June 2013, she participated in Shenzhen Satellite TV’s “The Show of the Year” program, singing “Moonlight in the City” and “Sunshine Always After the Storm”. This was also her first time participating in a variety show in more than ten years, and it was also her choice to come back. The first step was to realize that she only returned to the music scene last year.

According to information on the “DaMai” ticket purchase website, Xu Meijing will hold a special “‘Dream’ Xu Meijing Meet and Greet Concert” in Wuhan on May 25, with ticket prices ranging from 380 yuan to 1,280 yuan (RMB). Due to the negative reviews of the Nanjing concert, the current organizer “Shenzhen Taigu Culture Communication Co., Ltd.” announced that it will suspend ticket sales at the Wuhan station.
