Xue Lan, senior professor of liberal arts at Tsinghua University and dean of Schwarzman College, proposed at the 8th China Energy Model Forum (CEMF) annual meeting held in Beijing on the 24th that energy transformation and low-carbon development still face challenges, and exchanges and cooperation need to be strengthened to explore An energy development path that is in line with China’s national conditions and relies on the advantages of the China Energy Model Forum platform to provide scientific support for energy transformation and the “double carbon” strategy.

Amanda Leland, executive president of the Environmental Defense Fund (EDF), pointed out that in the face of the increasingly severe climate crisis, we must take bold actions, strengthen international cooperation, promote the transformation of the energy system, and seek a sustainable, inclusive, and resilient green development. road.

Li Shantong, a researcher at the Development Strategy and Regional Economic Research Department of the Development Research Center of the State Council and a member of the CEMF Academic Committee, pointed out in his speech that accelerating green transformation to help achieve carbon peaking and carbon neutrality is an important task for developing new productivity. The current global development environment is complex and ever-changing, and model research is an effective tool for policy analysis in dealing with uncertain environments.

Jiang Yi, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and a professor at the School of Architecture of Tsinghua University, pointed out that the key to building my country’s future new energy system is to achieve the supply of zero-carbon electricity, zero-carbon heat and zero-carbon fuel. To achieve a zero-carbon energy system, China must carry out in-depth reforms and technological innovations in electric power, transportation, industry and other fields, while optimizing the layout and regulation mechanism of clean energy.

Zhou Li, an associate researcher at the Institute of Energy and Environmental Economics at Tsinghua University, emphasized that energy efficiency improvement, non-fossil energy substitution, optimization of the internal structure of fossil energy, artificial CCUS and carbon removal technology are the main ways to reduce carbon emissions. In the future, the carbon market will gradually shift to a market based on absolute total volume, with the goal of achieving multiple entities, diverse transactions, reasonable prices, sound regulations and strong supervision.

Anand R. Gopal, Executive President of Energy Innovation, pointed out that policy is a key factor in promoting the development and application of models. Analyzing energy emissions, economic impacts, etc. through models will help formulate effective climate and energy transition policies. At the same time, he discussed in detail China’s existing sectoral actions and policies for carbon peaking and carbon neutrality, and elaborated on the positive impact of current policies on air quality, economy and human health.

The China Energy Modeling Forum (CEMF) was jointly initiated by Tsinghua University School of Public Administration, Tsinghua University Industrial Development and Environmental Governance Research Center (CIDEG) and EDF, aiming to provide an interactive exchange platform for domestic and foreign professional modeling teams and decision-makers. The platform promotes dialogue in the fields of energy, economy, environment, human health and climate change, promotes the capacity building of China’s energy and environmental models, and enhances the scientific level of China’s energy and environmental decision-making.
