“The palace lantern making skills in our village are known as the treasures of traditional Chinese crafts and have been passed down for hundreds of years.” Liu Zongyong, secretary of the Party branch of Longtou Village and director of the village committee, said, “The red lanterns reflect our happiness. Life.”
Speaking of lantern making in Longtou Village, it was famous as early as the Ming and Qing Dynasties. “The older generation will make lanterns every year and festival. The lively and festive red lanterns attract the surrounding folks to place orders.” Liu Zongyong said, “There are many kinds of lanterns here, and the workers are still a little busy in time for delivery. Don’t come.”
In 2018, Longtou Village established a folk culture company to organize skilled craftsmen in the village to build a “leading lantern” production base, forming a “village collective + company + farmer” business model to guide villagers to participate together. There are now more than 30 craftsmen who have been making special lanterns for a long time, and more than 90% of them are women.
Making lanterns not only inherits traditional handicrafts, but also solves the employment problem of villagers. The collective income of Longtou Village has also increased. Nowadays, the lanterns made in Longtou Village are sold all over the country, with annual sales reaching more than 1 million yuan. In 2019, Longtou Village also used lanterns as a support project to provide raw materials and technical support to Sanchakou Village in Chayouqian Banner, Inner Mongolia, bringing more than 200,000 yuan in economic benefits to Sanchakou Village and enhancing the brand influence of Longtou Village lanterns.
Only when the industry is prosperous can the village develop in the long run. In recent years, Longtou Village has vigorously carried out rural cultural construction and opened a prosperous road to the prosperity and development of rural tourism. In May 2019, Longtou Village established a 100-acre selenium-rich ecological garden and planted more than 10 kinds of fruits and vegetables. Visitors can rent a “shared field” and become a “shared farmer” to experience activities such as growing vegetables, watering, picking, and tasting, which promotes the development of specialty industries.

In 2020, Longtou Village launched an industrial model of “beautiful countryside + B&B”, transforming 38 idle courtyards of villagers into characteristic B&Bs. A variety of flowers were planted in the open spaces in front of and behind the houses, and more than 1,300 acres of forests were planted in the plain surrounding the village.
Taking advantage of its location, seizing development opportunities, and relying on local resources, Longtou Village actively creates characteristic leisure B&Bs, tofu shops, lantern factories and other characteristic industries with diverse content, reasonable structure, high correlation, and obvious cluster effects, forming a leisure, entertainment and tourism industry An integrated industrial development model integrating farming culture experience, folk B&B reception, and innovation, creativity and entrepreneurship has stimulated the endogenous power of rural revitalization.
With the in-depth development of beautiful countryside construction and improvement of living environment and farmland environment, Longtou Village has transformed from a small village with backward economy and dirty environment into a livable and beautiful place that is clean, tidy, fully functional, beautiful in environment and loved by the people. rural.
In recent years, Daxing District has made every effort to promote the implementation of the rural revitalization strategy. Rural development has strong momentum, rural construction has become more standardized, rural governance has continued to improve, rural reforms have continued to deepen, farmers’ income has grown steadily, urban-rural integration has gradually deepened, and rural revitalization has taken solid steps.
Walking in Longtou Village, the white walls and red tiles highlight the ancient charm, the pond surrounding it makes the mountains and waters more beautiful, and you can hear the singing of birds and the fragrance of flowers in the front yard. Entering the B&B, ancient trees, swings, and red lanterns come into view, outlining an idyllic scene where “the village is in the forest, the house is in the garden, and the people are in the scenery.” Specialty B&Bs such as “Mianshiju”, “Between Ten Acres” and “Moonlight over the Lotus Pond” attract a large number of tourists to come for vacation every year.
“The B&B here combines traditional culture with modern fashion, including pastoral picking and red education, making the residence more quality and life more poetic. I take my family here to experience it every year, and the children are happy every time I leave. “Reluctant to leave,” said tourist Mr. Wang.
The “one-stop” characteristic experience homestay industry has provided employment for more than 30 villagers in Longtou Village. Sister Yin, a villager, quit her job in Daxing District, 40 kilometers away, and returned to the village to work as a cook. Her specialty dish of braised carp, served with carefully made vegetable dumplings, has won the praises of tourists. Sister Yin said, “You can earn a lot of money at home. Who would leave their hometown? They all look forward to the good things in their hometown! More and more young people are returning to the village to work.”
The integration of the three industries has made villagers’ wallets richer and richer. While revitalizing cultural resources, developing specialty industries, and strengthening the collective economy, Longtou Village also uses its “fame” to gather surrounding characteristic cultures and handicraft productions such as shadow puppetry, gourd heat transfer, and medicinal food experience, and establish a clustered industrial development model. It attracts more than 3,000 tourists every year, driving an increase of more than 3 million yuan in industry revenue.
Longtou Village, founded in the Ming Dynasty, has a long history and profound cultural heritage. Longtou Village has deeply explored the cultural connotation of the village, built a village history museum, a red education corridor, and repaired the tombs of revolutionary martyrs. It uses history as a mirror so that every passerby can feel its spiritual power in history. In order to activate the cultural life of the villagers, Longtou Village has also established more than 10 cultural activity teams, including stilts team, yangko team, chorus team, cheongsam team, and dragon dance team. The beautiful and livable countryside has allowed the villagers to live a good life, the booming industry has allowed the villagers to raise their “money bags”, and the civilized and simple rural customs have allowed the villagers to embark on a new path.
Today, Longtou Village has become a well-known “star village” in Beijing, and has successively won honors such as “National Rural Governance Demonstration Village”, “National Civilized Villages and Towns”, “China’s Beautiful Leisure Villages”, “National Forest Villages” and “Beijing’s Most Beautiful Villages”.
