April is my country’s National Reading Month, and it is the 29th World Book Day. Donghua University’s “Huazhang Enlightens Wisdom, Delights, Reading and Moisturizes Heart” Reading Day event kicked off recently. Reading sharing sessions, theme book exhibitions, and reading clubs were established… The school relies on reading landmarks such as libraries, cultural corridors, and physical bookstores to create a strong reading atmosphere and lead teachers and students to feel the power of reading.
On April 19, the “Huazhang Enlightens the Wisdom, Delights the Mind and Refreshes the Heart” Lakeside Reading Sharing Session was held on the shore of Jingyue Lake on the Songjiang Campus of Donghua University. The venue incorporated canopy elements to create a unique immersive experience. The event took the form of teachers and students reading together. It provides teachers and students with a reading and communication platform to collide ideas and share wisdom.
The sharing session invited experts, scholars and reading experts to share their insights and help readers better understand and appreciate the connotation of books. Teachers and students used the classic works of Lu Xun, Lin Yutang and Xu Zhimo as the entry point to read classics and appreciate books. Talk about life and ideals, read and see the beautiful scenery, laugh and think deeply. “The works of the three literary giants are like shining stars, inspiring our young generation to strengthen their cultural confidence in the dialogue between ancient and modern times, bravely shoulder the mission of the times, shape their character with reading, and cultivate their feelings for their family and country with the fragrance of books.” Counselor of the School of Management of Donghua University Chang Meiqi said.
On the same day, a book exhibition with the theme of “Chinese Modernization” opened in the Songjiang Campus Library. The book exhibition focuses on Chinese-style modernization, and many excellent works such as “Awakening and Transcendence”, “From an Ancient Civilization to a Cultural Power”, “Poetic Culture of Great Powers and Important Weapons”, bring a rich spiritual and cultural feast to teachers and students.
“Reading is an important way for human beings to acquire knowledge, increase wisdom, and cultivate morality. It can allow people to get ideological inspiration, establish lofty ideals, and cultivate a noble spirit.” On April 22, the “Wenqi Book Club” reading club of Donghua University was established. Instructor Wu Jing gave a lecture titled “The History, Present and Future of Reading”. Several students read aloud excerpts from Lu Xun’s “Miscellaneous Talks on Reading”, Francis Bacon’s “On Reading”, and Wang Meng’s “Poetry and Wine in the Youth” at the classic reading meeting. Relying on cultural resources such as Donghua University Press and Wenqi Bookstore, the reading club explores diversified and multi-form reading activities by conducting reading salons, classic readings, essay competitions, hosting lectures by famous speakers, special exhibitions, etc., and continuously improves its influence. Drive more teachers and students to insist on reading classics and help build a scholarly campus.
At the founding ceremony, the “Wenqi Bookstore Book Drifting Plan” was simultaneously launched. At the “Book Drifting Station”, readers brought idle good books such as novels, essays, poems, photography collections, picture books, etc., and wrote down their own stories with the book. Or if you want to say something to the “new owner” of the book, put it into the inn and replace it with a book that you are interested in. Liu Leyi, a classmate who had just recited Wang Meng’s “Poetry, Wine and Youth”, brought her favorite “The Sun and the Moon in the Sun and Moon Tower”. Talking about the original intention of participating in the activity, she said: “Reading is like reading through other lives, Occupying another period of time and experiencing another arrangement, reading and drifting is another exchange and broadening in a sense. “
