According to the website of the Beijing Municipal Government, Gao Peng was born in July 1972. He is a native of Fengcheng, Liaoning Province. He is an in-service graduate student, has a PhD in economics, is a member of the Communist Party of China, and is currently a member of the Party Leadership Group and Deputy Mayor of the Beijing Municipal Government.

In terms of work division, Gao Peng is responsible for urban management, transportation, agriculture and rural areas, and assists in emergency management. In charge of the Beijing Municipal Urban Management Committee, Municipal Transportation Commission, Municipal Agriculture and Rural Affairs Bureau, and the particularly important “Tiananmen Area Management Committee”, as well as the Beijing Key Station Area Management Committee, Beijing Academy of Agriculture and Forestry Sciences, etc.

Gao Peng is the first deputy ministerial-level official to be dismissed from office in Beijing since the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China.

The last time he appeared in official reports was at the beginning of this month, when the Beijing Daily reported that on the eve of Qingming Festival, Gao Peng and other leaders of the Beijing Municipal Party Committee went to the Beijing Qingming Headquarters to inspect the city’s key tomb areas through large surveillance screens.

It is worth mentioning that in the early morning of March 10 this year, during the two sessions of the Communist Party of China, Beijing was heavily guarded. An unknown person drove a car and drove into the main entrance of Zhongnanhai (Xinhua Gate). The relevant video triggered heated discussions. As the person in charge of the Tiananmen Area Management Committee, it is unknown whether Gao Peng is responsible for this.

According to the Beijing Municipal Government website, in addition to Gao Peng, there are two “post-70s” deputy mayors in the leadership team of the Beijing Municipal Government, namely Xia Linmao, born in 1970, and Jin Wei, born in 1972. This also means that Gao Peng was the youngest deputy mayor of the Beijing Municipal Government.

In response to this, Chinese netizens said, “The pace of anti-corruption these days is like blowing a charge”, “Hey… I have become the deputy mayor of Beijing, why don’t I work hard and cherish my feathers?”, “It makes sense What problem has been solved?”, “Responsible for the South Railway Station Management Committee, Beijing Subway, and infrastructure construction…”, “What signal does this late-night tiger attack send?”

On the 19th, the WeChat public account of the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection announced that 4 people were investigated, 1 was punished, and 6 cases of corruption were reported. The people involved include Wei Weihan, the former mayor of Zhongshan, Guangdong; Li Wei, the former standing committee member of the Shandong Provincial Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, and the Jiamusi CPPCC Committee of Heilongjiang Province. Former Vice Chairman Fu Huihua, Vice Chairman of the Anyang CPPCC Henan Province Lei Ming and others.

It is understood that since this year, the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection has reported that the number of central management cadres under investigation has increased to 22. Gao Peng is also the sixth central management cadre to be investigated in April this year. At present, Gao Peng’s personal information has been removed from the Beijing Municipal Government website.
