The China-Cambodia Intergovernmental Coordinating Committee held its seventh meeting

Wang Yi said that China and Cambodia are die-hard friends who help each other and share weal and woe. The friendship between China and Cambodia was personally forged by the older generation leaders of the two countries. It serves the interests of the two peoples, conforms to the development trend of the times, and has strong vitality and broad development prospects. Under the strategic guidance of President Xi Jinping and Cambodian leaders, the construction of a China-Cambodia community with a shared future has always been at the forefront of the times and has become a model for building a new type of international relations. Both sides agreed to give full play to the coordinating role of the China-Cambodia Intergovernmental Coordination Committee and continue to promote the construction of a high-quality, high-level and high-standard China-Cambodia community with a shared future in the new era.

China reiterates its support for Cambodia in choosing a development path that suits its national conditions, supports Cambodia in safeguarding national sovereignty, security, and development interests, and firmly opposes external forces interfering in Cambodia’s internal affairs. Cambodia reiterated its adherence to the one-China policy and recognized that Taiwan is an inalienable part of China’s territory. Cambodia opposes any attempt to use the Taiwan issue to interfere in China’s internal affairs, opposes any form of “Taiwan independence”, and firmly supports all efforts made by the Chinese government to achieve national reunification.

Both sides agreed to intensify high-level exchanges and deepen exchanges of experience in state governance. Strengthen defense cooperation, continue to successfully organize joint exercises and training, promote cooperation in medical and health care, personnel training, mine clearance and other areas, and jointly combat online gambling, electronic fraud, drug trafficking and other transnational crimes.

The two sides agreed to promote the integration of the “Belt and Road” initiative with Cambodia’s “Pentagonal Strategy”, formulate a cooperation plan for the “Industrial Development Corridor” as soon as possible, advance the preliminary design of the China-Cambodia Railway, and promote the early development of more “Fish and Rice Corridors” such as the China Agricultural Demonstration Center. Harvest the project and deepen the comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Cambodia. We will implement the China-Cambodia Free Trade Agreement with high quality, support the export of high-quality Cambodian agricultural products to China, and encourage more Chinese companies to invest in Cambodia.

Both sides agreed to take the “China-Cambodia Year of People-to-People Exchange” as an opportunity to encourage tourism exchanges between the two countries, increase flights between the two countries, support Cambodia in exploring tourism and cultural resources, and carry out more pragmatic exchanges between youth, local and friendly organizations. The Cambodian side will provide support for the Chinese Cultural Center to resume operations in Cambodia.

The two sides reiterated their willingness to actively carry out cooperation within the framework of the Global Development Initiative, Global Security Initiative, and Global Civilization Initiative, and continue to strengthen coordination and cooperation on platforms such as Lancang-Mekong Cooperation and China-ASEAN Cooperation. Both sides believe that maintaining the hard-won peace and stability in the region and promoting regional development and prosperity are in the common interests of regional countries. The two sides emphasized that they will fully and effectively implement the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the South China Sea, advance negotiations on the Code of Conduct in the South China Sea, and strive to reach an early conclusion of the Code of Conduct.

After the meeting, Wang Yi and Sun Chanto witnessed the signing of bilateral cooperation documents in the fields of infrastructure, agricultural planning, inspection and quarantine, and attended the release of the Cambodian version of “Chenla Customs” and the export ceremony of Cambodian coconuts to China.
