Taiwanese groups on the 72nd anniversary of the San Francisco Peace Treaty: Taiwan’s liberation is a fake issue

The day after tomorrow (04/28) is the 72nd anniversary of the San Francisco Peace Treaty. More than 10 Taiwanese groups held a press conference to reiterate that the San Francisco Peace Treaty only mentioned Japan’s “relinquishment” of sovereignty over Taiwan and Penghu, and did not talk about subsequent ownership. The so-called “recovery of Taiwan” “It is a fake issue, and it makes three demands on the regime of the Republic of China, including including the legal validity and impact of the San Francisco Peace Treaty in the curriculum, stopping the internal propaganda of “Taiwan Restoration”, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs must remove the post stating Taiwan’s international legal status.

In two days, it will be the 72nd anniversary of the San Francisco Peace Treaty. The Taiwanese Peng Party summoned more than 10 pro-independence groups, including the Taiwan Foundation, Taiwan Federation, Taiwan Church, Taiwan Society, and Taiwan Northern Society, to urge the public to pay attention to the substance of the San Francisco Treaty.

Chairman of the Taiwan-Penghu Party Zheng Zicai: “In the San Francisco Peace Treaty, Japan gave up its sovereignty over Taiwan and Penghu. This sovereignty did not say that it would belong to any country in the world. The Republic of China used the term “Recovery of Taiwan” to deceive the Taiwanese and Penghu people and the whole world. The sovereignty of Taiwan and Penghu has returned to China. This is not true. It is false.”

Zheng Zicai emphasized that the San Francisco Peace Treaty that took effect in 1952 only “relinquished” the sovereignty of Taiwan and Penghu, but did not talk about “ownership.” The so-called “recovery of Taiwan” is simply false.

Chairman of the Taiwan-Penghu Party Zheng Zicai: “We have the right to decolonize after the war and the right of residents’ self-determination. Through residents’ self-determination, Taiwan and Penghu can become sovereign and independent countries. Isn’t this great? Why don’t we ourselves know that we have been deceived 72 It’s been years, and I continue to be deceived.”

Wang Xinghuan, Chairman of Taiwan Foundation: “There is a poll conducted by the Taiwan Independence Alliance. From 2021 to 2023, under the political rhetoric of the Republic of China, Taiwan, the proportion of Taiwan identification dropped by 10% in three years. This 10% is Shifting to the Republic of China or China identification, support for Taiwan’s independence has dropped by 8% in the past three years, while support for maintaining the status quo or even integrating with China has increased by 8%.”

Taking the poll numbers as an example, it is clearly pointed out that the Republic of China and Taiwan are tied together, which will not help the self-determination of the Taiwanese people in the slightest.

Chairman of the Taiwan Alliance Party Zhou Ni’an: “Let the Taiwanese people understand the true history of Taiwan, I think this government should do it, and we are also very much looking forward to it. If he (Lai Qingde) is unable to do something, or has difficulties, If so, we also have many opposition parties who can help.”

It claims that the incoming Lai government can respond to the relevant demands of Taiwanese groups and allow Taiwan to move towards a normalized country.
