[The Epoch Times, November 20, 2023][The Epoch Times](Reported by Epoch Times reporter Tianrui, Sydney, Australia) On November 20 (Monday), Kelly Bayer Rosmarin, President of Optus, Australia’s second largest telecommunications company ) announced his resignation, effective immediately.

Singtel, the Singaporean parent company of Optus, announced that Rosmarin had submitted his resignation. Last week, she was questioned in the Senate over the Optus outage affecting tens of millions of users.

Rosmarin said: “I had the opportunity to explain in detail the reasons for Optus’ disconnection, recovery operations and response process at the Senate Question Meeting.”

Rosmarin was asked during a Senate question on Friday whether she would resign. At the time, she avoided the question and instead announced her resignation three days after the question.

Rosmarin said: “Now that I have had some time for personal reflection, I have concluded that my resignation is in the best interest of Optus going forward. It has been a privilege to lead the Optus team and serve our customers. I am committed to the team Proud of the many achievements.”

Optus chief financial officer Michael Venter will assume the interim role of president until a new president is appointed.

Rosmarin has served as President of Optus since April 2020. During this period, Optus experienced two major incidents affecting tens of millions of users. One incident was the personal data leakage of nearly 10 million Australians, which was exposed in September 2022. Among them, the passport numbers, driver’s license numbers and Medicare numbers of 2.8 million people were stolen, and some people’s information was put for sale on the dark web. .

Another time was the recent Optus network outage for more than ten hours. Many people were unable to make calls or access the Internet. Some people could not even get through to the 000 emergency service number. Payment terminals that relied on the Optus network were also unable to operate, causing many merchants to suffer losses.

On the day Rosmarin announced his resignation, Optus suffered another partial network outage. Optus users in Melton, in Melbourne’s west, woke up this morning and found that their mobile phones were disconnected and could not make calls or send text messages.

Optus said the cause of the accident was a broken underground optical fiber and that it was currently undergoing repairs.
