Currently, the Urumqi area of China (Xinjiang) Pilot Free Trade Zone has entered the stage of comprehensive start-up construction. In the Urumqi International Land Port Area, people from all over the world continue to gather here. Factory buildings and industrial parks are growing jointly, and roads are extending towards the fields of hope. Every day here is new.

For the builders of CCCC Second Harbor Engineering Co., Ltd. headquartered in Wuhan, Hubei Province, Urumqi is a city carrying dreams. As “dream chasers”, they closely link their personal growth and struggle with the rapid changes in Urumqi. They have witnessed the transformation of this hot land and have grown up with Urumqi.

Fang Yin: Taking root in Xinjiang and advancing development

“Everywhere cattle and sheep carry white grass, rain and snow fall in Luntai.” In the winter of 13 years ago, Fang Yin took a train from Wuhan, Hubei, and spent more than 40 hours arriving at his destination, Luntai County, Bayingolin Mongolian Autonomous Prefecture, Xinjiang When I was there, I couldn’t help but sigh at the vastness of China.

The project is located in the hinterland of the Tarim Desert, with harsh natural conditions, with temperatures as low as minus 20°C in winter. As a civil construction technician, Fang Yin and his colleagues set up a greenhouse to burn coal to heat the concrete to advance the construction progress of the power tower foundation. He also sets a small goal for himself every day, reads drawings and specifications, and takes professional courses to relieve loneliness.

In May 2014, he officially joined the China Communications Construction Company Second Harbor Engineering Co., Ltd. and later served as the chief technical engineer of the Urumqi Old Town Renovation Project. At that time, the project department had just been established and there were only 11 people, including the project manager. The project had 11 bidding sections, stretching for more than ten kilometers, involving about 100,000 residents in communities where multiple ethnic groups lived together. It was very difficult to coordinate the acquisition and demolition. When demolishing illegal buildings, Fang Yin and his colleagues went door to door to find out the people’s demands, do their ideological work, and handle people’s complaints. Their ability to serve the people was greatly improved.

What makes Fang Yin proud is that he and the project team successfully built a new Xinjiang International Grand Bazaar Scenic Area, adding color to this Xinjiang tourism business card.

In 2021, Urumqi Land Port Area is in a period of rapid development. CCCC Second Harbor Engineering Co., Ltd. has won the bid for three projects including the Urumqi Bainiao Lake Lingang Industrial Park-Integrated Service Center Project. Fang Yin has also successfully “advanced” to CCCC Secretary of the Party Branch of the Xinjiang Area Project Group of the Housing Construction Division of the Second Harbor Engineering Company.

The project complex covers a large area with many sites and areas. During the peak construction period, more than 2,500 people were working at the same time. Safety management and control was difficult. At the same time, the owner had high requirements for project quality and safe and civilized construction.

Fang Yin organized project party members to set up a “Party Building + Innovation and Excellence” working group to regularly collect, organize and review work results… He has closely connected his life goals with the development of Xinjiang. He builds his dreams here and realizes them here.

Tang Lei: I became a “new Xinjiang native” after two years in Xinjiang

In the past, Tang Lei’s understanding of Xinjiang was “remote” and “backward”. When he learned that he would be transferred to Urumqi to work, he was a little confused. Today, two years later, he has integrated into the work and life here and calls himself a “new Xinjiang native.” He said: “Xinjiang people are friendly, enthusiastic, and easy to get along with. The climate in Xinjiang is also very comfortable, and I like it here.” “

On March 10, 2022, he took up the post of project leader of the “One Belt, One Road” International Road Port Logistics Service Base Project of CCCC Second Harbor Engineering Company. On the day he set foot on the land of Urumqi, Tang Lei felt that Xinjiang was much different from what he had imagined. In and out. Surrounding the project are self-built houses and some demolition areas, with hundreds of businesses waiting to be developed. After looking at the project renderings, I feel that the design of the logistics park is full of high-end feel.

In two years, Tang Lei’s project team has increased from three to five people at the beginning to more than a thousand people during the peak period of construction. As the project leader, he rushes to every corner of the project frontline day after day, feeling full of energy.

In the eyes of his colleagues, Tang Lei, who has a background in quality technology, has his eyes as a ruler. Whether the safety measures on site are in place and whether the construction is in accordance with the specifications, he can find the problem with just a glance.

Today, with this project as the center, the cold chain logistics project, express mail center project, multimodal transportation collection area and grain and oil trading center of the assembly center are like circles of ripples, constantly expanding outward and drawing concentric circles. Xinjiang is gradually transforming from a relatively closed inland to a frontier of opening up to the outside world.

In Tang Lei’s view, future development opportunities lie in Xinjiang, and his professional knowledge and work experience in the construction field will have more opportunities to be used. “I think there are infinite possibilities here, and I firmly believe that Xinjiang’s future will be better.” Tang Lei said firmly.

Song Wenfu: Dreams “take root and sprout” in Xinjiang

Song Wenfu, a young man from the Yi ethnic group, is from Bijie, Guizhou. On a high-speed train ride to Chengdu, the little brother sitting on his left told him a lot about the lives of people in Xinjiang and his own experience in Xinjiang. The little brother’s description painted beautiful pictures in Song Wenfu’s mind, making him yearn for Xinjiang.

After graduating from university in July 2023, Song Wenfu joined the China Communications Construction Company Second Harbor Engineering Co., Ltd. When the company’s human resources department asked for his opinion, he did not hesitate to choose the Central Green Valley Construction Project of Bainiao Lake Lingang Industrial Park in Urumqi as the starting point of his career.

Song Wenfu’s job is mainly to integrate labor management and logistics management. During the project, he was constantly exposed to many new things and kept learning about the department’s work. He was full of passion and energy every day, and he was also slowly adapting to the time difference here.

I remember when I first learned how to handle employee salary measurement and settlement in the internal system, Song Wenfu couldn’t export project information because he was not familiar with the company’s internal system, and his work came to a standstill. Finally, under the patient guidance of Li Lang, director of the General Affairs Office, the rest of the process was completed. Li Lang told him that there were two steps in the process that were reversed, so he was stuck at this step. On the last day of that month, everyone’s wages were paid, which relaxed his tense mood slightly and made him deeply realize the importance of improving business capabilities.

Having been in Xinjiang for almost a year, Song Wenfu has gained a lot from his conscious work. This year the country has introduced new policies to intensify the construction of Xinjiang. His desire to participate in and witness the development and construction of Xinjiang has become stronger. He said that in the future, I will work actively, starting from doing every little thing well, to improve my abilities in all aspects, and let my dreams “take root and sprout” in Xinjiang.
