Lu Rong, a farmer in Alar City, said that after they signed a 30-year contract to turn wasteland into fertile land, the local government forcibly took back the land for free during the contract period. Since 2019, a total of 1.6 million acres of land has been vacated without compensation. The victims reached thousands of households.

Lu Rong, a farmer from Alar City: “When we contracted this land, it was a barren land with no grass growing on it. We invested a lot of manpower, material resources, and financial resources. After turning this wasteland into fertile farmland, the land was taken over by us during the contract period, and no one was left alive. The compensation will be divided, and the water and electricity will be cut off. If you are not willing to sign the contract and hand over the land, you will be locked up. If you don’t sign, you will not be let out. Many people are locked up. There is no other way but to sign. “

It is understood that during the process of forcibly evacuating their land, some farmers were seriously injured or even tortured to death.

In 2020, more than 100 people jointly petitioned, but neither the local petition bureau nor the court accepted the petition. Lu Rong and many farmers went to Beijing to petition many times since that year, but were illegally kidnapped and detained.

Lu Rong: “On January 3, 2021, I was arrested and detained for seven or eight months. I was hung on the wall with handcuffs and shackles in the detention center for 19 days, and then I was put on handcuffs and shackles. Parade. It wants me to surrender and show the chicken to the monkey.”

While Lu Rong was being imprisoned, more than 90,000 red date trees she planted, which were 13 years old and in their peak fruiting season, were all dug up. Earlier, 238 poplar trees were forcibly dug up, causing heavy losses. .

Lu Rong: “They took away all my trees. The tractors and excavators were there to destroy the evidence. They dug up my jujube trees. You see, they dug up all my jujube trees of more than 100 acres.”

Lu Rong said that the 225 acres of land she contracted was auctioned for 887 yuan per acre at the end of 2004. The land contract expires in 2034. After more than ten years of investment in saline-alkali land, there is no income, and water bills are rising every year.

Lu Rong: “If the soil quality is particularly bad, that is, if the soil is extremely saline and alkaline, it will take many, many years to change before it can become fertile farmland. I have been working on some land for more than ten years.”

In addition, it is understood that Shi Tingfug, a Nanjing citizen who assisted Chen Guirong in defending his rights, was arrested across provinces in January this year and is currently being held in the Alar City Detention Center. Chen Guirong is on bail pending trial. Zhang Yong, secretary of the Municipal Law Committee, is believed to be the instigator of the suppression of rights protection.
