Zhejiang releases public library reading report: annual reading volume reached 9.21 billion pages, equivalent to spanning 1.5 Zhejiang provinces_Hangzhou Net

Recently, reporters learned from the Zhejiang Library that the “Zhejiang Provincial Public Library 2023 Annual Reading Report” was officially released, showing the situation of Zhejiang people borrowing from libraries in 2023.

According to the library loan situation, there will be 29.407 million certified readers in the province in 2023, an increase of 4.46% over the previous year. Public libraries across the province added 13.729 million volumes (items) of various types of documents, and their collections reached 128.032 million volumes (items).

A total of 1.853 million people in the province borrowed 65.624 million volumes (pieces) of various types of literature (including books, journals, and multimedia materials, excluding online digital resources). There were 39.5 books (items) borrowed (including renewals) per capita. Based on the permanent population of Zhejiang Province of 66.27 million that year, the per capita borrowing volume (items) was 0.99.

According to reading bills, among the borrowed literature, the total number of books borrowed reached 65.624 million. The total value of borrowed books is 2.17 billion yuan. The total loan time is 4.239 million years, and the cumulative number of loaned books exceeds 9.21 billion pages. Calculated based on the thickness of each 100 pages equivalent to 0.75 centimeters, the reading “thickness” reaches 690.5 kilometers, which is equivalent to spanning 1.5 Zhejiang provinces.

In terms of population characteristics, in terms of gender ratio among certified readers, the number of male readers is slightly lower than the number of female readers, with a male-to-female ratio of approximately 48.8:51.2. From the perspective of different age groups among the book borrowing population, gender differences show different characteristics. There are slightly more male readers than female readers among readers born in 10s, 60s and before. The difference between men and women among readers born in 1970s, 1980s, 1990s and 2000s is larger than that in other age groups. Among the various regions in Zhejiang Province, Wenzhou has the largest loan volume at 12.854 million books, followed by Hangzhou with 12.199 million books and Jiaxing with 7.236 million books.

The loan time in Zhejiang Province has increased in 2023 compared with the loan volume in 2022. 38.1% of the loan volume throughout the year comes from Saturdays and Sundays, with the largest number being on Sundays. The peak borrowing periods are from 9:00 to 10:00 and from 14:00 to 16:00 every day, and 56% of the annual loan volume occurs during this period. The peak periods for renewals are between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. and 3 p.m., with 35.6% of the annual renewal volume occurring during this time period.

In terms of reading preferences, literature books are still the favorite among readers, ranking first in the rankings of different genders, ages, and regions; followed by art and language books. Among them, female readers born in the 1980s rank first among readers of all age groups.

Among the most popular authors, the top three authors are all children’s literature writers: Yang Hongying, Xiao Jiangnan, and Yang Peng; and in the book loan ranking data, the three books “Journey to the West”, “The Romance of the Three Kingdoms” and “Dream of Red Mansions” are more popular Popular, ranked in the top three.
