[New Tang Dynasty News, Beijing time, April 25, 2024]Recently, Xi Jinping, leader of the Communist Party of China, visited Chongqing for an inspection and then chaired a symposium on the development of the western region. Chongqing’s officialdom has always been accused of being cursed, and many municipal Party committee secretaries have had bad outcomes. Some analysts pointed out that as the military industry department continues to be purged, this is not a good sign for Chongqing Municipal Party Committee Secretary Yuan Jiajun, who has emerged from the military industry system.

The Communist Party of China’s Xinhua News Agency reported on April 24 that from April 22 to 24, accompanied by Chongqing Municipal Party Committee Secretary Yuan Jiajun and Mayor Hu Henghua, Xi visited logistics parks and urban communities for inspection and research. According to reports, on the afternoon of the 23rd, Xi chaired a symposium on the development of the western region in Chongqing and delivered a speech.

Independent commentator Cai Shenkun published an article on the Overseas With the evacuation, coupled with the unprecedented tensions in the Taiwan Strait and South China Sea, Xi needs to consider the so-called plunge into the hinterland. Once the east faces a war crisis, the west can shoulder the mission of military and industrial logistics support.

Cai Shenkun believes that the development of the western region is just a topic used by the central and local governments to amuse themselves, and no new breakthroughs are possible.

The article pointed out that Chongqing officialdom has always been accused of being under a curse. Bo Xilai and Sun Zhengcai were purged, and even Chen Min’er, the leader of the “Zhijiang New Army”, was marginalized. Many senior Chongqing officials were investigated, arrested, and even fled and died. For example, Wang Lijun, a close associate of Bo Xilai, fled into the U.S. Consulate in Chengdu, and Ren Xuefeng, Chen Min’er’s deputy and alternate member of the Central Committee, committed suicide during a meeting at the Beijing West Hotel.

The article believes that Yuan Jiajun is a technocrat who comes from the military industry system and is not a close confidant of Xi Jinping. The loyalty of today’s technocrats has been greatly reduced. Moreover, most of the Departments of Military Industry and National Defense Science and Technology were trained by Zeng Qinghong. When Xi went to Chongqing to hold the “New Era” Western Development Conference, he could get up close and personal with Yuan Jiajun.

Since December last year, Wu Yansheng, chairman of China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation, Liu Shiquan, chairman of China Ordnance Industry Corporation, Wang Changqing, deputy general manager of China Aerospace Science and Industry Corporation, and Wang Xiaojun, president of the China Academy of Launch Vehicle Technology and deputy party secretary, have been dismissed from the CCP Membership of the 14th National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference.

Yuan Jie, chairman of China Aerospace Science and Industry Corporation, and Chen Guoying, general manager of Ordnance Equipment Group, who had been “missing” for several months and widely rumored to be under investigation, were also quietly replaced by the authorities. On April 12 this year, Chen Ximing was appointed chairman and party secretary of Aerospace Science and Industry; Zhang Yujin was appointed director, general manager and deputy party secretary of the Ordnance Equipment Group.

Cai Shenkun’s article believes that this time Yuan Jiajun will accompany Xi Jinping, and it will depend on how he communicates with Xi in private and how he reassures Xi. If he is highly recognized by Xi, Yuan Jiajun may become a member of the Standing Committee next time. However, the military industry department continued to be purged, and Wu Yansheng, Yuan Jie, Liu Shiquan and others were withdrawn. Yuan Jiajun occupies an important position in Chongqing. Yuan Jiajun’s former boss Zhang Qingwei has long been marginalized and went to serve as vice chairman of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference. Wu Yansheng, who succeeded him, was investigated and punished. This is not a good sign for Yuan Jiajun.

The article stated that the military industry department was once hyped by the media as a new force trusted by Xi. After the 20th National Congress, the anti-corruption in the military involved a large number of high-level military industry officials. Current Politburo members with military industry backgrounds, including Zhang Guoqing, Ma Xingrui, Yuan Jiajun, etc. Whether there is a direct impact depends on Xi’s trust in these people. But with the widespread decline of the military, defense, science and engineering departments, Xi’s recognition and trust in technocrats will definitely be shaken.

Current affairs commentator Li Lin told The Epoch Times a day ago that Chongqing’s officialdom has been under a curse in recent years. Bo Xilai and Sun Zhengcai, who were in charge of Chongqing, have successively fallen. Chen Min’er will continue to clean up their “remaining poison” during his tenure. Now Yuan Jiajun came to Chongqing from Zhejiang. His official career was originally promising, but it is difficult to say whether he can escape the curse of Chongqing officialdom.

Wen Qiang, the former deputy director of the Chongqing Public Security Bureau and the former director of the Chongqing Justice Bureau, was executed on July 7, 2010. Before he died, he said to Wang Lijun: “One day you will end up like me.”

Late at night on February 6, 2012, Wang Lijun, the former director of the Chongqing Municipal Public Security Bureau and deputy mayor, fled the US Consulate, bankrupting Jiang Zemin’s group Bo Xilai, Zhou Yongkang and other coup plotters, and detonating an earthquake in the CCP’s political arena. On September 24, 2012, Wang Lijun was sentenced to 15 years in prison.

Since the Wang Lijun incident, Chongqing officialdom has become a high-risk place. On September 22, 2013, Bo Xilai was sentenced to life imprisonment; on May 8, 2018, Sun Zhengcai was sentenced to life imprisonment. In addition, three former Chongqing public security bureau chiefs Wang Lijun, He Ting, and Deng Huilin were arrested, and a large number of senior officials were investigated.
