On November 13, in order to help Chinese and foreign students understand China’s grassroots social governance and understand the sixty-year development process of the “Fengqiao Experience”, the School of International Education of Zhejiang University organized Chinese and foreign students from Zhejiang University to visit Fengqiao Town, Zhuji City, Zhejiang Province. Carry out national conditions education social practice activities “Understanding China’s grassroots social governance, Chinese and foreign students from Zhejiang University visit Maple Bridge”.

This event was hosted by the School of International Education of Zhejiang University and hosted by the Famous Teacher Studio of National Conditions Education for International Students of Zhejiang University. The “Fengqiao Experience” refers to the “Fengqiao Experience” created by the cadres and the masses in Fengqiao Town, Zhuji County, Zhejiang Province (now Zhuji City) in the early 1960s, “mobilizing and relying on the masses, insisting on not handing over conflicts, solving them on the spot, and achieving fewer arrests. The good governance experience of public security embodies the humanistic concept and the philosophy of good governance at the grassroots level.

On the bank of Fengxi River, explore the “Fengqiao Experience” exhibition hall

At about 11 o’clock in the morning, Chinese and foreign students from Zhejiang University walked into the “Fengqiao Experience” exhibition hall located at the foothills of Kuaiji Mountain. Next to it was the leisurely Fengxi River and the scattered villages in Fengqiao Town. Here, they learned about the birth and evolution of “Maple Bridge Experience” and the development and innovation of “Maple Bridge Experience” in the new era.

TUNGAMIRAI ERIC MUPONA, a 23-year PhD student from International Affairs and Global Governance (Mirai, Zimbabwe) said this: “I am deeply impressed by the progressive development and institutional innovation of the ‘Maple Bridge Experience’ in resolving social conflicts, This experience has gradually developed from a concept that initially only solved social conflicts within the small town of Maple Bridge into a typical model for comprehensive management of social security at the grassroots level in China. “

Yang Qifan (China), a 21st-year master’s student majoring in international organizations and international exchanges, said: “Based on the ‘Hehe’ culture, inheriting the culture of rural sages and promoting the culture of negotiation, Fengqiao’s experience in the new era is both empirical and universal. It also has pertinence for different countries. As long as it is actively studied and internalized based on the actual situation of the country, it will surely promote the progress of grassroots social governance on a global scale and make greater contributions to the realization of a community with a shared future for mankind.”

At the foothills of Kuaiji Mountain, dialogue with Fengqiao Town Social Governance Center

In the afternoon, Chinese and foreign students from Zhejiang University walked into the Social Governance Center of Fengqiao Town and had a dialogue and exchange with local cadres.

Professor Yu Xunda, director of the Institute of Political Science at the School of Public Administration of Zhejiang University, gave a professional introduction to the general knowledge of the “Maple Bridge Experience”, gave an in-depth interpretation of the grassroots mediation plan and answered the students’ questions.

Professor Deng Renren, deputy dean of the School of International Education, combined his own overseas study experience and encouraged the international students of Zhejiang University present to take advantage of the opportunities provided by the school to interact more with the Chinese people in order to better understand the real China.

Later, the cadres of the Fengqiao Town Social Governance Center introduced the digital and modern development of the Social Governance Center to the students. Based on the specific conditions of Fengqiao Town, they introduced modern structures such as the ‘1+29’ town and village governance platform. The center’s mediators had in-depth conversations with Chinese and foreign students about their rich personal mediation experiences.

ADAM MAGUIRE WILSON (Ma Weichu, Ireland), a 22-year master’s student majoring in international affairs and global governance, said: “This conversation with local staff made me appreciate China’s sense of responsibility for maintaining grassroots democracy and social stability. Beside the rice fields, visit the national civilized village – Duhuang New Village

At the last stop, Chinese and foreign students from Zhejiang University came to Duhuang New Village, a national civilized village. They visited the five major cities: red – leading by party building, green – singing vitality, yellow – praising harvest, brown – remembering history, and blue – carrying dreams. The partially-composed Duhuang New Village Exhibition Hall allows you to experience the beauty of mountainous countryside in “Zhejiang” and feel the road to rural revitalization.

Zhou Yuxuan (Singapore), a grade 21 undergraduate majoring in international economics and trade, said: “Duhuang New Village is committed to creating a beautiful and livable rural environment by developing leading industries, improving residents’ quality of life and promoting cultural prosperity. I think They especially hope to exert influence at the cultural level and form a strong synergy to jointly promote rural construction. I like the enthusiasm of the villagers here, the fresh air and the unique smell of rice.”
