2023 Digital Intelligence Yangtze River Cultural Forum | Zhang Hongyan: The eight cities along the Yangtze River in Jiangsu, please anchor this world-class goal
When the sun rises, the flowers on the river are as red as fire, and when spring comes, the river is as green as blue. The water towns in the south of the Yangtze River not only carry the deep-rooted nostalgia of tourists, but also become the bright and beautiful symbol of Jiangsu’s watery charm. How can Nanjing, Zhenjiang, Changzhou, Wuxi, Suzhou, Yangzhou, Taizhou, Nantong, and the eight cities along the Jiangsu section of the Yangtze River achieve a beautiful scene of the integration and symbiosis of rivers, mountains, people, and cities? Zhang Hongyan, dean of the Institute of Urban Science and Urbanism at Nanjing University, dean of the Yangtze River Innovative Cities Research Institute of Jiangsu Province, director and chief expert of the Jiangsu Provincial Urban Modernization Research Base, and director of the Academic Committee of the Nanjing Yangtze River Culture Research Institute, suggested that eight cities could be anchored The goal of “world-class creative industry city cluster” is to create a high-end economic development community and a world-class leisure and vacation destination.
Zhang Hongyan introduced that among the eight cities along the Yangtze River, three cities have entered the group of world creative cities, namely Nanjing, the world capital of literature, Yangzhou, the world capital of food, and Suzhou, the world capital of handicrafts and folk art. . Several other cities also have their own characteristics in the field of creative industries and can fully build a world-class creative industry city cluster.
Integrated development is inseparable from infrastructure connectivity. Zhang Hongyan, who has been engaged in urban planning for many years, noticed that according to the latest plan, 44 cross-river bridges will be built in the Jiangsu section of the Yangtze River by 2035. “There will be one bridge almost every 10 kilometers, which lays the foundation for the integrated development of the eight cities along the river. a reliable foundation.”
Strengthen top-level design and plan the layout in a “game of chess”. The Jiangsu section of the Yangtze River has a total length of 433 kilometers and a total coastline of 1,169.9 kilometers. It is rich in natural and cultural resources. In April 2022, Jiangsu issued the “Yangtze River National Cultural Park (Jiangsu Section) Construction Promotion Plan”. Currently, the “Yangtze River National Cultural Park (Jiangsu Section) Construction and Protection Plan” is being compiled, which will coordinate the construction layout of the Yangtze River National Cultural Park (Jiangsu Section) with “one main, eight branches and four areas” for eight cities along the river.
Zhang Hongyan said in an interview with reporters that the eight cities are generally economically developed and have high-tech industries, and they can make more efforts in regional integration and urban-rural integration in the future. Through eight key projects including the protection and inheritance of Yangtze River culture, the exploration of the cultural connotation of the Yangtze River, the demonstration of integration of culture and tourism in the Yangtze River, and the integrated development of mountains, rivers and cities, Jiangsu has demonstrated its achievements, established Jiangsu’s “Yangtze River Natural and Cultural Gene Bank”, and launched the “Cross Intersection” golden waterway heritage tourism route. and key projects such as major cultural landmarks and the construction of a world cultural identity system for Yangtze River culture. Taking the Yangtze River as the axis, the landscape on both sides as the painting platform, and the local natural and cultural memories as the brush, the two sides of the Yangtze River National Cultural Park are depicted as works of art. At the same time, it is necessary to highlight regional characteristics and not show one “face” to others. The urban facades of the eight cities along the river must each have its own beauty and share the beauty.
