At the sub-forum “Practicing ESG Concepts and Fintech Promoting High-Quality Development” held on the 10th, Li Yonghong, deputy director of the Foreign Cooperation and Exchange Center of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, mentioned in his keynote speech that domestic ESG work faces many challenges.
Based on the theme of the meeting, Li Yonghong shared several suggestions: First, strengthen multi-department collaboration, establish and improve the ESG Chinese system, promote the connection of relevant international and domestic standards, and formulate an internationally comparable, fair and equitable Chinese ESG standard reference system; improve ESG Disclosure guide to improve corporate ESG information disclosure and ESG governance levels, and enhance corporate sustainable operations and risk management capabilities. The second is to strengthen ESG linkage and cooperation between the government, enterprises and financial sectors, actively promote the development of green finance, and achieve a systematic response between green finance and my country’s macro policy goals. The third is to strengthen cross-sector cooperation and exchanges, promote ESG to play a more active role in the innovation and development of green financial technology, prevent “greenwashing” behavior, and manage and control green financial risks.
It is understood that the Foreign Cooperation and Exchange Center of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment is an institution directly under the Ministry of Ecology and Environment. It provides services for the Ministry of Ecology and Environment to carry out international cooperation in the fields of policy research, implementation of international conventions, regional/bilateral and multilateral cooperation, industrial technology exchanges, and capacity building. Support and service. In 2022, the center established an ESG special working group to promote the reform of the environmental information disclosure system in accordance with the law. It also strengthened cross-departmental cooperation with Xinhuanet and relevant financial institutions to actively promote the Chineseization of ESG. For more than a year, the center has drawn on the experience of relevant international high-end consulting and rating agencies, actively connected with relevant domestic ministries and commissions, and overall planned the top-level design framework and cooperation network for domestic ESG work. It has received strong support and positive response from relevant departments and units.
