In this interview, Professor Chen Jin tells us the story behind the new book. Stories about inspiration, subject systems, and knowledge frameworks, stories about the collision of Eastern and Western wisdom and culture, and stories about book writing and publishing.

This interview covers the concept of knowledge management, how knowledge management systems are built and its relationship with philosophy, as well as writing and book publishing.Through this interview, readers will have a comprehensive understanding of The Routledge Compansion to Knowledge ManagementThis book.

What is the main purpose of writing this book?

Professor Chen Jin:

For a long time, knowledge management has been divided into two schools of thought. One is the knowledge management system based on data and information analysis, which is dominated by European and American scholars, and basically equates knowledge management with information management. The second is a knowledge concept system based on the implicit-explicit spiral cycle of subject-object interaction, mainly by Japanese scholars, which combines knowledge management and wisdom possession. I think both schools of thought have their own advantages and obvious shortcomings.

During my exchanges with Mr. Ikujiro Nonaka, I realized that his ideological system not only meets the requirements of epistemology, but also meets the requirements of the philosophical level. This is a knowledge management system formed by integrating Western sociology and Japanese philosophy. Based on this, I suggest further systematization at this level. Therefore, Mr. Nonaka and I discussed and decided to co-edit a film A brand-new knowledge management manual that is guided by philosophical ideas, guided by epistemology and ontology, and covers knowledge management scenarios in digital technology and digital economy.. Under Mr. Nonaka’s knowledge management framework, this manual explores the promotion mechanism of digital technology to improve knowledge management efficiency, and explores the relationship between knowledge and practical wisdom from a philosophical perspective, especially from the perspective of Eastern philosophy such as Chinese philosophy and Japanese philosophy. . This book has initially achieved the rational guidance of value and the reconstruction of the knowledge management system in the context of the digital economy.

Professor Chen Jin:

First of all, this book greatly improves the level of knowledge management, incorporating knowledge management into the process of reshaping corporate values and pursuing ideals, beliefs and meanings. Originally, knowledge management was a tool type. For example, in many companies, knowledge management is equivalent to office automation. We believe that knowledge management not only has instrumental rationality, but also has value rationality. From the perspective of value rationality, knowledge management is the company’s vision and its pursuit of ideals, beliefs and meaning. Therefore, we raise the tacit level of knowledge to the company’s culture, especially focusing on values and good vision.

Secondly, we Conducted in-depth research on the reinvention of traditional knowledge management by digital technologies such as big data and artificial intelligence, and worked hard to overcome the inefficiency of traditional knowledge management. Although traditional Western knowledge management emphasizes the combination with information management, it is still limited to traditional information management and lacks discussion on the role of digital technologies such as big data and artificial intelligence technology on knowledge management. Therefore, we also focus on exploring the digital economy in this book. Contextual importance of digital technologies for knowledge management. In summary, The main feature of the knowledge management manual is in-depth exploration from two aspects: value rationality and instrumental rationality.. We introduced philosophy and rose to value rationality; introduced big data and artificial intelligence, and made in-depth explorations in tool systems. I believe that this manual has effectively explored the construction of the discipline system of knowledge management to a large extent, and will surely prove to be a great contribution in future research and practice.

Professor Chen Jin:

The biggest challenge is to find scholars with in-depth research in the field of knowledge management. We found that it is not enough to rely solely on knowledge management researchers from Japan. Chinese scholars have also made great contributions to the cutting-edge exploration of knowledge management. The addition of Indian scholars further improved Eastern wisdom. At the same time, European scholars from countries such as Italy, Poland, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, and Estonia also made outstanding contributions to the creation and publication of this book. Overall, the scholar search process is quite challenging.

According to the original plan, we hoped to find more authors from global scholars who think about knowledge management from a philosophical perspective, but in the end this failed to happen. Fortunately, Chinese scholars finally fulfilled the requirements for exploring knowledge management from a philosophical perspective. Therefore, although the overall process was very difficult, with the support of scholars, we were able to successfully complete this work.

Professor Chen Jin:

I think the most outstanding advantage of Taylor & Francis Publishing Group is its high editorial level. The editorial team of Taylor & Francis takes their work very seriously and assists each author to complete the editing process in accordance with scientific paper standards, which greatly improves the quality of the manuscript. I am very grateful to Taylor & Francis for their efficient editing process, This enables the manual to be completed from compilation to final publication in a relatively short period of time., these all reflect the excellent qualities of Taylor & Francis as a world-renowned publishing group. As the editor-in-chief, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Taylor & Francis on behalf of all authors, and I very much hope to continue to cooperate with Taylor & Francis at a higher level in the next step.

Professor Chen Jin:

First, how can knowledge management research further connect with the theory of knowledge in philosophy?, such as the ideas proposed by the ancient Greek philosopher Aristotle, the German philosopher Husserl, the Japanese philosopher Nishida Kitaro, the Chinese philosopher Wang Yangming, etc., as well as Mao Zedong’s “Practice Theory”, “Contradiction Theory” and other philosophies Ideas are integrated into the knowledge management system. Combining the ideas of these philosophers with the knowledge management discipline system is a very valuable direction.

Secondly, the challenge is to further strengthen the cross-integration of knowledge management, strategic management, and innovation management, and to further explore the relationship between knowledge spiral and dynamic capabilities, and the relationship between knowledge spiral and corporate innovation.. From the perspective of enterprise management, it mainly combines knowledge management, strategic management and innovation management, including how knowledge management promotes the dynamic capabilities of enterprises. Because the cycle of implicit and explicit knowledge proposed by Professor Ikujiro Nonaka can actually drive the construction of corporate capabilities and even produce a dynamic and improvised capability building. Dynamic capabilities are requirements for organizations, while improvisational capabilities are requirements for individuals.

third, the application scenarios of digital technology are very rich and the space is huge. In addition to strengthening exchanges with strategic management and innovation management scholars, we need to conduct cross-border cooperation and further apply digital technologies such as big data, deep learning, and blockchain to improve the efficiency of knowledge management. Further explore the evolutionary mechanism from data to information, to knowledge, and then to wisdom, explore the connection between machine intelligence and knowledge, and build a more comprehensive, multidisciplinary knowledge management research system.

Professor Chen Jin:

first, We will speed up preparations for the translation and publication of the Chinese version of the manualplans to publish the Chinese version of the manual at the end of this year or early 2023, so that our knowledge management research results can benefit readers in China and the global Chinese community.

Secondly, We will work hard to further improve the knowledge management system and form high-level knowledge management teaching materials. There is even a chance to write a BOK (Body of Knowledge) on knowledge management.

third, Continue to strengthen academic exchanges on knowledge management and the level and level of knowledge management in various organizationsassisting the high-quality development of various organizations, Gradually prepare to establish the International Society for Innovation and Knowledge Management. I hope that in the future academic communication process, more energy will be invested in the construction of the knowledge management system, including the gradual establishment of relevant knowledge management majors, doctoral programs and master’s programs in the future, to promote the construction and improvement of the knowledge management system, and accelerate Towards a knowledge economy in the digital age.

As another masterpiece jointly published by Professor Chen Jin and Taylor & Francis Publishing Group,The Routledge Compansion to Knowledge ManagementIt has greatly improved the level of knowledge management and incorporated knowledge management into the process of reshaping corporate values and pursuing ideals, beliefs and meanings; at the same time, it has conducted in-depth research on the reinvention of traditional knowledge management by digital technologies such as big data and artificial intelligence. , strive to overcome the inefficiency of traditional knowledge management.
