On November 3, the 6th World Merchant Conference with the theme of “Carrying forward the spirit of merchants and promoting national rejuvenation” was held in Meizhou. During the meeting, the launch ceremony of global merchants supporting Guangdong’s “Hundreds and Thousands of Projects” was held, and the “Global Merchants Proposal to Help the Great Rejuvenation of the Chinese Nation” was read out. At the same time, the conference was held with the theme of “Integration of the Soviet Area into the Sea and High-Quality Development”. In response to the forum, merchant representatives, academicians and experts are invited to give keynote reports and engage in high-end dialogues.
Meizhou’s “Hundreds and Thousands of Projects” got off to a good start
The “Hundreds and Thousands Project” is an important decision made by the Guangdong Provincial Party Committee to promote high-quality development of counties, towns and villages in the province and to better solve the problem of unbalanced and inadequate development between urban and rural areas from a new starting point. Since the beginning of this year, Guangdong has further promoted the implementation of the “Hundreds and Thousands of Projects” with the intensity of the “Number One Project”.
At this conference, participating leading guests and merchant representatives jointly launched global merchants to support Guangdong’s “Hundreds and Thousands Project”, further reflecting Guangdong’s determination to expand high-level opening dimensions and Meizhou’s determination to accelerate the integration of the Soviet area into the sea and high-quality development.
The reporter learned that since this year, Meizhou has taken the implementation of the “Hundreds and Thousands of Projects” as its “number one project” and has made a good start with the strong support of merchants. As of the end of October 2023 and during the Sixth World Merchant Conference, a total of 213 “Hundred Thousand Thousand Projects” projects have been started and put into production in counties (cities, districts) in Meizhou City, with a total planned investment of 98 billion yuan, and a total investment of 26.645 billion yuan has been completed Yuan. Among them, 115 projects have started construction with a planned investment of 60.839 billion yuan, and 7.853 billion yuan of investment has been completed; 98 projects have been put into production, with a planned investment of 37.161 billion yuan, and 18.792 billion yuan of investment has been completed.

Meizhou is the only prefecture-level city in Guangdong whose entire territory belongs to the former Central Soviet Area. In September 2022, the National Development and Reform Commission and the Ministry of Finance jointly issued the “Overall Plan to Support Meizhou’s Integration into the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area to Accelerate the Revitalization and Development”. Meizhou has become another national strategic platform in Guangdong after Hengqin, Qianhai and Nansha.
At the Jiaying Forum of this conference, merchant representatives, academicians and experts were invited to give keynote reports, exploring the theoretical and practical paths for the integration of the Soviet area into the sea and high-quality development, and promoting the integration of the Jiangxi, Fujian and Guangdong original Central Soviet Area with the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and the coastal areas. The Western Economic Zone will conduct deeper and wider cooperation to achieve mutual benefit, win-win results, and coordinated development.
Liu Youhong, full-time deputy leader of the counterpart cooperation work leading group of Longyan City, Fujian Province, deputy secretary and vice chairman of the CPPCC Party Group, believes that the two cities of Longyan and Meizhou have many similarities in economy and culture, and the two cities can speed up transportation interconnection and work together to Inherit and carry forward red culture, strengthen industrial collaboration, promote ecological co-governance and sharing, and deepen normal long-term cooperation and other aspects to exchange knowledge, learn from each other, and develop together.
GAC Group has several parts manufacturing companies in Meizhou High-tech Zone. Zeng Qinghong, Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of GAC Group, suggested that Meizhou should further optimize investment and business environment in the future; appropriately advance the layout and increase investment and support in the construction of new energy vehicle charging and swapping infrastructure.
Zhang Zhenghe, professor and doctoral supervisor at China Agricultural University and director of the China County Economic Research Center, suggested that Meizhou should improve its integration into the Greater Bay Area transportation network, speed up railway interconnection, promote highway interconnection, expand air channels, and open up water transportation channels.
