In September of this year, the Delaneys decided to take their two young sons, 4-year-old Emmerson and 18-month-old Wells, to Mai in Vestavia Hills. Family photos taken at McCallum Park. At that time, the elder brother Emerson followed the photographer’s instructions to “hug” his younger brother, but things did not go as planned. Wells seemed taken aback when Emerson put his arms around his neck from behind. The Delaneys and the photographer couldn’t help laughing when they saw this scene.
Photographer Alex Uselton has extensive experience photographing children, and she knows all too well how short their attention spans are. Alex told The Epoch Times that she usually has “zero expectations for a designed photography process” because she prefers to “encourage kids to be spontaneous” while showcasing “their unique personalities.”
She often tells parents of children not to force them to sit quietly because there is no novelty or fun in doing so. So, she wanted to capture some of the best moments while Emerson was running and playing freely.
During this time, Alex told 4-year-old Emerson: “I want to see how you give Wells a big hug! Can you show me that?”
Emerson obediently complied. “The result was a funny scene of ‘strangling’,” the photographer said. “Emerson really showed sweet love to his brother. You can see how much he likes his cute brother, but he just didn’t expect it. His hug accidentally turned into a chokehold, which was so funny!”
The brothers’ mother responded: “I have never seen them captured so perfectly. Emerson loved to hug his brother so tightly and I really felt like he wanted to pour all his love into Wells’ neck.”
Alex told the newspaper that after the adults laughed, their mother rushed forward to make sure the “hug” wasn’t too tight. The photographer called the moment “funny and adorable.”
This unique “throat-locking photo” showing brotherly love quickly went viral on the Internet. Alex mentioned that since then, she found that “her business suddenly became booming, and many people came to her door.” Meanwhile, Mrs Delaney said the family were “delighted that the photo has resonated with so many people.”
“I think one of the reasons the photo is so popular is that it touches the hearts of mothers everywhere,” Alex said. “Families with young children can be happy and have a colorful life, but they can also be loud and chaotic at times. of!”
